Mere Des, a patriotic lullaby written by Arshed Bhatti and produced by Faisal Rafi, is the first single from the new album. The video features Maheen Khan, Shehnaz Ismail, Jabbar Gul, Yousaf Bashir Qureshi, Faiza Ahmed and Arieb Azhar as artisans who take part in a collective art installation. The track can be previewed here. These are the stills from Arieb Azhar’s upcoming music video “Mere Des”.

Arieb Azhar:

“True music is the union between the individual and the universal; a release, rapture, celebration, quest, lament of the human spirit. If I am able to touch that in moments of my life, I consider myself fortunate!”

Having spent 13 years in Croatia, Arieb returned to Pakistan in 2004. While his exposure to Balkan and gypsy music shaped his early development, he now immersed himself into local music, nurturing a love for Sufi poets and the humanist tradition. Arieb’s first album, Wajj, includes the immortal lyrics of Bulleh Shah, Khwaja Ghulam Farid and Mian Mohammad Baksh.

Arieb’s music and unique vocal style came into the limelight in the course of his involvement with Coke Studio, seasons two and three. He is currently finishing his next album, which, besides the well-known humanist poets of the sub-continent, will also incorporate contemporary poets such as Sheikh Ayaz, Arshed Bhatti and Akhtar Qayum.

Mere Des:

“Mere des me hen imkaan bohot, aas umeed armaan bohot
Sehraa me ek boond gire, chashma pathar se phootte
Sakht seet me dhoop khile, daryaa me koyi leher utthe
Mere des ke baasi yaar bohot, warafta den pyaar bohot
Shagufta lehjon me, besaakhta ulfat ki
Sadrang baaten karte hen, kaano me rass bharte hen
Mere des me hen imkaan bohot, aas umeed armaan bohot”
