Faiza Mujahid to launch her brand new single, ‘Meri Zindagi’

Musician Faiza Mujahid announces the release of her song and first official music video for single “Meri Zindagi”, on the 9th of May 2011 across all television and radio networks in Pakistan. This marks Faiza Mujahid’s return to the music industry and sees the musician in a new avatar, with an anthem looking to inspire the new generation of urban girls and women in Pakistan.

Indeed Faiza Mujahid’s debut release was what came to be a major music release and hit, “Bandeya Ho” composed and sung with musician Khawar Jawad for Shoaib Mansoor’s hugely acclaimed film, “Khuda Ke Liye in 2006/2007 for which she also lent her vocals for the songs “Mahi Ve” and “Khuda Ke Liya (OST)”. The song’s success led her to perform at a very young age at a series of sold out concerts at cafes, stadiums, theatre venues and clubs.

Although Faiza released her second song, “Kahan Houn Main” in 2008 to much acclaim [The song was featured in one of the episodes of the popular Indian TV show “MTV Roadies”], she took a hiatus from songwriting to become radio programming producer at Radio 1 FM 91 in 2009 till early 2011 While at the station, Faiza was an integral part of their Pakistani music programming and also spearheaded the enterprising Celebrity Camp, a concert for the flood affectees arranged by her radio station at which she also performed.

Written and composed by young musician Faiza herself, “Meri Zindagi” is perhaps a coming-of-age song for the musician and somewhat introspectively, talks to the youth, more specifically young girls, to be more independent and in decision making control of their lives; a vision driven from the musician’s own personal experiences and journey of young rebellion, having constantly clashed with tradition and expectations, carving out a path for herself. The video for ‘‘Meri Zindagi” sees the musician in a new avatar and has been shot in high definition, conceptualized and directed by Armughan Hassan, featuring artist and drummer Mehreen Murtaza and Asma Lakhwaira on guitars.

On the release of her single Faiza has said,

“Taking a musical hiatus after Bandeya Ho and Kahan Houn Mein ended up being important for me as it gave me time and hopefully a pinch of maturity to explore my musical direction – with the release of Meri Zindagi, I feel I have had a chance to express my hopes, desires and frustrations as I experienced them. My music has always been inspired by my own understandings of the world as it is and Meri Zindagi is no different – if anything, I hope that in its own way the song it is able to reach out to the current generation of young girls to encourage them to stand up for themselves positively.”

In addition to “Meri Zindagi”, Faiza will also soon be heard on the soundtrack of Shoaib Mansoor’s next feature film, the much anticipated Bol, alongside Atif Aslam and Hadiqa Kiyani for their collaborative song “Hona Tha Pyar”. She also recently performed a cover of the 1992 Cricket World Cup anthem “The World is Coming Down” along with Junaid Khan of Call The Band, for a joint project by Mvergence and Radio1FM 91.
