“On my way to uncover my destiny. Certainly not MUSIC. May Allah guide us all to the right. Blessed are those who opt for an alternative life, yet they are surrounded and tempted by opportunities,” said the talented singer/songwriter and music producer, Shiraz Uppal.
Shiraz has announced that he is quitting the music business. To date the singer has three albums to his name – “Tera Te Mera” (2003), “Juki Jhuki” (2005) and “Ankahi” (2009). He has also produced music for other musicians including Atif Aslam, Noori, Zeb and Haniya, JAL, Amanat, Fariha Pervez and many more.
He took to Facebook to announce his retirement:
“I would like to thank you all for liking and enjoying my music. It was a Beautiful journey but everything comes to an end one day. So I said Good Bye to my Musical Career by my own choice. I just wished and prayed to my creator that how can I make u happy? And he poured a light in my heart that opened my eyes and the path was lying clear in front of me. May Allah guide us all to the right. Amin!”
For Shiraz — this is his “new beginning” and we wish him the best of luck.

Following Junaid Jamshed ! Good to know ! ALLAH O AKBAR
Good luck Shiraz bhai, see you on the other side!
Wish u best of luck and pray that Allah give hidayat to all of us.
Allah sab ko hidayat day Aameen shiraz bhai bohat acha fasla kiya aap ne best of luck.
While I respect the choice Shiraz has made, i don’t understand what is wrong in pursuing music and being a good muslim (as per the definition here)…..and I don’t understand how people even say good luck and allah also give us hidayat to all of us…is it as those of us who play or listen to music are not on the right path or playing music is wrong….even the blog admins sort of say the same..
i think we Pakistanis are faced with multiple identity crisis and we don’t know how to manage this all. i think we have transcend above this and understand that there is not wrong in being musician there is no religious barrier to be a musician! you can be a good musician and good muslim at the same time…you don’t have to leave one for another
Hassan, music is considered to be forbidden or frowned upon in some circles, you and I may disagree with this but many people will not. Unless the admins want to be preachy, they can only wish good luck to a retiring musician, doesn’t mean they share the same concept. Besides its his personal choice and the best one can offer here is respect and good wishes.
Hassan music islam mai haram hai is liye sab kehtay hai ke Allah hum sab ko hidayat day.
Aur kabar mai aap se sab se pehle namaz ka poucha jayega aur baaki naik amaal ka tho aap khud souchay jo islam mai haram ho ek cheez tho kya who kerna aap sab ke liye theek hai?
Fahad: Music Islam mein haram naheen. Apni research keejyay apko koi saheeh Hadith ya Ayat naheen milay jo kahe kay Islam mein music HARAM hay. Is kay ilawa koi argument ho nahee sakta.
will not call him an idiot (although i think he is a massive one for doing this!) i will call his ideas idiotic. and everyone who is saying music haram hay, allah hidayat de, etc. sab misery may raho. may tu samjhi allah rehman aur rahim hay, tum logon nay tu evil aur mean bana diya hay. music sun’nay say humay gunah aur punishment milay gi…hahaha.
yeh nach gana aj ke door ki paidawar nahi hai ,yeh hazur pak (PBUH) ke zamane se ho raha hai or unhon ne hamesha ise napasand farmaya, and HJ agar app ko koi hadith pak nahi mili jis mein music haram bataya gya ho tu koi aesi hadith pak le ao jis se yeh pata chal jaye ke hazur pak (PBUH) ne ise passand farmaya.
Shaheeh Hadith:
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“Among my ummah there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol and musical instruments…” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari ta’leeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91)
@Faisal, @Khurrum
To answer both you guys, yes our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, has allowed playing of music multiple times. The accounts of these incidents are widely reported and are just as authentic as the Hadith Khurram posted. In fact these two opposing instructions go head to head in all “Music is haraam” debates.
Before we attempt to expand this more, discussions such as this come down to the logic you end up extracting from the orders given (or lack thereof). In case of adultery, alcohol, silk and gold (for men), clear and direct instructions are present. This is not the case with music.
In light of the above, music can only be concluded as a gray area in Islam. Its now the choice of the followers to interpret the instructions as literal or with context of pre-Islamic Arab culture and origins of the religion.
humein chahiye ke agar hum koi galat kam karte hain yah hum se ho jat ahai tu us galat kam ko humein galat samjhana chahiye, lakin humara sab se bara almiya yeh hai ke galat kam tu hum log karte he hain or sab ko yehi kehte hai ke yaehi thk hai, jo hum kar rahe hain bilkul thek hai.phir dunya chahe dengi ko kisi chez ka reactio kahe or selab ko hakumat ki laparvahi humare liye tu wo azab e ilahi hai.halat sab ke samne hain bus dekhne or sochne ki zarurat hai,in this modern worl we say ke sab chalta hai bur beleive mein at the day of judgement sab nahi chale ga.ALLAH hum sab ko hidayat de,humare pass itni bari bari misalein hain jin logon ne music chora tu kya wo log pagal hain, are they out of there mind, ALLAH jis se muhabat karta hai us ko din ki rah par chala deta hai.is duniya ke ahmiat machar ke par jitni bhi nahi hai.
Strange, we say for Adultery, Silk and Gold that clear and direct instructions are present while we exclude music from these items as described in Hadeeth.
The music was present at that time and the pagans of Arab used to listened to it. Our beloved Messenger (Peace be upon him), his sahaba and our pious predecessor never indulged themselves in such activities. It’s a clear evidence for the prohibition of music.
May Allah guide us all to the straight path…
