5 Minutes with Jarar Malik [Interview]

We sat down with Jarar Malik who recently performed a session for Ufone Uth Records 2.0 and talked about his work, experience with Ufone Uth Records and possible future endeavors.

1. How did you begin? How do you define your sound?

As a kid living in the United States, I would see everyone from Michael Jackson to Nirvana on MTV and just wish I could do that. I started playing guitar around the age of 8 and would always teach myself how to play and sing along to my favorite songs. One day I saw a Junoon concert and was just mesmerized thinking “wow, they’re playing the guitar loudly, rocking out all over stage, AND singing in MY LANGUAGE?! That’s what I want to do!” And since then I was hooked on music. I played in bands throughout high-school and got serious about playing and recording music in college. I think my sound encompasses a few different genres, but if you forced me to define it, I would say pop-rock.

2. What influences your music?

I usually start strumming some chords on a guitar and come up with a melody on the spot. Slower when certain things are going on around in my life, and faster when other things are happening in life. From then I decide which direction to take the song in and slowly build it up instrument by instrument in my own recording studio.

3. How do you find Ufone Uth Records? How was your work experience with them?

Awesome! I think Ufone Uth Records is a fantastic platform. Dude, there is just SO MUCH talent in Pakistan that it’s unbelievable… and it is unfortunate that there aren’t many avenues for artists to showcase their work. Ufone Uth Records is a brilliant idea that brings unknown artists into the public eye and it’s done in a top notch way. My experience working with the Uth Records team was very, very cool.

4. Have you been contacted by any big name other than Ufone Uth Record?

What could be bigger than Ufone Uth Record?

5. Any new upcoming projects?

My upcoming single and video for my song “Jaag” will be released soon. The video stars myself and famous model Syra Yousuf and is a very cutting edge, Hollywood style video. The song itself is a rock and roll track in which I’ve sang and played all the instruments myself. I’ll be releasing the video and the song at the same time. Following that will be more singles and videos being released off my album, and I have a number of concerts in the pipeline as well. You can keep track of everything on my official Facebook.
