April 23, 2012

Ali Azmat has recently recorded music for Indian director Pooja Bhatt’s upcoming erotic thriller ‘Jism 2’, which is a sequel to 2003 film ‘Jism’. It is one of the most-eagerly awaited Bollywood movies of 2012. The film stars Indo-Canadian pornographic actress, businesswoman and model, Sunny Leone along with Emram Hashmi and Randeep Hooda.

Ali Azmat has lent his voice for Randeep Hooda’s character ‘Kabir’, for which he has sung a couple of songs – ‘Kuch Rahein Gaya Baki’ and ‘Yeh Jism’. The songs have been written and composed by debutant Arko Prova Mukherjee.

Commenting on the songs, the music director of the film said, “Randeep plays the cello in the film. So, I have used cello as the signature instrument in Ali’s songs for Randeep. I’ve penned the lyrics for the song – “Kuch rahein gaya baki”. It has a Sufi-rock feel to it and has a world music sound. There is a thematic composition that’s like a background score with lyrics. It’s called “Yeh jism”.”

In an interview with TOI, Ali Azmat said, “It feels good to work with friends. I`ve known Pooja (Bhatt) and Munish Makhija. This new composer, Arko Prova Mukherjee, is promising. He has penned the lyrics and composed the tunes.”

It is interesting to note that Ali Azmat recorded the songs in Lahore on Skype as he was not granted a visa to visit India. “Getting a visa is an unreliable exercise. It’s been two years since I didn’t get a visa to India. Filling up countless forms, waiting in queues and going through endless scrutiny procedures are so frustrating that I’ve stopped attempting to get a visa to India. Artistes are sensitive creatures. Look at what happened to SRK in the US. It’s humiliating.”

As the film is scheduled to release on 12th December, expect the soundtrack of the film to be out somewhere between late September and early Novermber.
