Coke Studio @ MTV Wins Praise from Rohail Hyatt

By Ahmad Uzair

For the past 5 years, since its inception, Coke Studio Pakistan has really garnered much fame and praise from the critics and fan alike. It has really become a popular phenomenon in the region and has a large fan base in our neighboring country, India, too. This had really persuaded them to start a version of their own last year. Named as Coke Studio @ MTV, it miserably failed to make any mark in its first season, last year. Comparisons were being drawn with original Pakistani version of the program. Last time they had some popular and much acclaimed artists on board but it just didn’t happen for them.

But things seem to have changed in this season as the Indian version is slowly but very truly making its way into the audience. They have come up with some very original work in the season 2 which is going on air these days. Some of it really gives u a serene feeling and takes you to another world of spirituality.

It’s the first time that I have myself seen lots of people on social networking sites, sharing songs from Coke Studio @ MTV and in fact some of them are quite good to listen.

This has led to shower of some praise from our very own Rohail Hyatt who happens to be the front man of Coke Studio Pakistan. Recently he was seen praising his Indian counterparts for putting up an amazing show. Rohail said;

“Coke studio India is rocking in season 2! Thumbs up to the team.”

These little kind words from the maestro himself are a great thing to see. And this will surely invoke a sense of competition among the two programs that will be really exciting to see in the coming seasons.

After a disastrous season 1 from the MTV people, they have seem to made the right changes at the right time as the start of season 2 saw a change in the team and also the replacement of the producers. Last time it was Lesle Lewis who was heading the house band team but right now it’s the inclusion of 7 producers from amongst India’s biggest names in the music industry who have surely hit the right chord and taken the Coke Studio @ MTV towards the right path.

Seeing the praise from Rohail Hyatt, it has really set the stage for a competition between the two versions and we can hope to have some excellent tunes coming our way and also Coke Studio Pakistan raising the bar to another level.
