So finally the much awaited film of the season ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist‘ got released almost a month ago. It’s a Hollywood venture directed by critically acclaimed Mira Nair and the movie is based on the all time best seller novel by Mohsin Hamid of the same name. Being an entirety Hollywood movie, what interests the local audiences is its story line that is deeply embedded in Pakistan. Still with whole of the story line based on a Pakistani, it couldn’t be shot in Pakistan due to some unforeseen circumstances but here comes the Pakistani music to the rescue as almost the complete soundtrack of this Hollywood flick consists of local singers which makes this movie even a better delight to watch. Of all of them, Atif Aslam once again tops the chart with his amazing vocal that he had lent for two of the tracks from the movie.

This year’s most anticipated album ‘Junoon-20 (Volume 1)‘ is finally here. The Sufi rock album which consists of 20 tracks, features talented artists like Aag, Alison Sudol, Bilal Khan, Fifi Haroon, Laal, Nusrat Hussain, Outlandish, Peter Gabriel, Rohail Hyatt, Shahjehan of The Kominas, Shubha Mudgal, Usman Riaz and Vital Signs, has now been released on iTunes.
The album costs $9.99 and the proceeds that will be raised from it will be donated to help support the efforts of Salman and Samina’s Charity for Education.

As you probably already know Salman Ahmad & Brian O’ Connell united for the 20th anniversary of Junoon to release two new special edition albums. This ought to be a treat for Junoon fans as you’re going to get your hands on 40 Junoon songs divided into two volumes.
Salman has already released five of the tracks from volume 1 on YouTube, featuring some of the young talented artists, including Mitti by Aag, Dil Main Meray by Bilal Khan, Neend Aati Nahin by Laal, No More by Outlandish and Saeen by Usman Riaz.
This year, Junoon‘s music is in full swing as Salman Ahmad has a lot of surprises for his fans. As reported earlier, he is working with Peter Gabriel for a complete album, he’s also doing his first Bollywood soundtrack for a film about a rock band in which he will also be making a guest appearance and has also recently met the acclaimed US-based Indian film director and producer Mira Nair in New York to discuss the music for her upcoming drama film, The Reluctant Fundamentalist which is based on Pakistani author Mohsin Hamid’s bestseller literary piece.

Sufi rocker, Salman Ahmad who has been described as the “Bono of Asia” will soon be performing live in concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 18th at the Kimball Theatre, located at Merchant’s Square in Colonial Williamsburg, United States. The concert and campus visit by Junoon is part of the William & Mary’s recently launched Asian Studies Initiative and its Silk Road Event Series. The initiative is a long-term project to support Asian Studies at the College of William & Mary (Chartered on February 8, 1693, by King William III and Queen Mary II as the second college in the American colonies). The concert is free and open to the public. Tickets are required for admission.
Junoon’s blend of Western rock and Sufi music has been a sensation throughout Europe and the Subcontinent, selling more than 30 million albums worldwide since 1990.
The “Rock and Roll of Fame” Peter Brian Gabriel, an English singer, musician and songwriter who rose to fame as the lead vocalist and flautist of the progressive rock group Genesis was so touched by the Pakistani Sufi rocker Salman Ahmad‘s voice and composition of “Open Your Eyes” that he has offered Salman to record a complete album with his Real World label next year. He has sold over a 100 million copies which shows the height of his excellence.
Peter Gabriel opened the doors of Real World Records to Salman. Real World Records has been a platform for musicians from all over the world for the past 20 years.
In July 2010, devastating floods took the majority of Pakistan. These floods affected around 20 million people, mostly by the destruction of property, livelihood and infrastructure, which people are still trying to rebuild. Rebuild Pakistan and their lives.
The damage had been caused. Some of the most influential artists in Pakistan, such as Salman Ahmad and Atif Aslam, began to help raise awareness with the aid from International icons.

Pakistan’s ‘Rockstar’ Salman Ahmad had been back again with “Open Your Eyes”, featuring Englishman Peter Gabriel (of Genesis fame) and American Alison Sudol (recently nominated for a Grammy award for best upcoming artist).
Salman and his wife Dr. Samina launched this song on ITunes and other digital retailers. Each dollar from this download still goes to Pakistan’s flood relief through their charity organisation, Salman and Samina Global Wellness Initiative.
