Zinda Bhaag set to be released in USA on October 18th

Zinda Bhaag set to be released in USAPakistani film Zinda Bhaag, currently doing record business in Pakistani theatres, is set to be released in the USA on 18th October.

“This is another stamp of approval for Zinda Bhaag. It is the first Pakistani film to have found US release while still in theatres,” said producer Mazhar Zaidi.

Zinda Bhaag, starring Naseeruddin Shah and directed by Meenu and Farjad has earned huge praise across the board. After picking up four awards at the Mosaic-Misaff festival in Canada it became Pakistan’s first entry in fifty years for Oscars consideration.

Academy Award winning Pakistani film ‘Saving Face‘ has been awarded 2 prestigious Emmy Awards for Best Documentary and Outstanding Editing: Documentary and Long Form at the 34th Annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards. This marks the second Emmy win for the film’s director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, who previously received the accolade in the Current Affairs category for the documentary ‘Children of the Taliban’.

The film holds immense attraction within due to the Legendary Actor Naseeruddin Shah starring in it. The way a figure narrates a story and makes everyone understands his intentions is well-performed by Naseeruddin who speaks Punjabi throughout the movie. Amna Ilyas stars in the female lead cast and holds a relatively short but strong character as Rubina.

Pakistani Academy Selection Committee Nominates ‘Zinda Bhaag’ for Oscar Consideration

Zinda Bhaag Nominated for Oscar ConsiderationThe Pakistani Academy Selection Committee has selected ‘Zinda Bhaag‘ as the first Pakistani film in over fifty years to be submitted for Oscar consideration in the ‘Foreign Language Film Award’ category at the 86th Academy Awards. A total of four films were submitted to the committee for consideration including Chambeli, Josh and Lamha (Seedlings) in addition to Zinda Bhaag. The movie was selected by way of a secret ballot and was the overwhelming film of choice of the Committee members. As per standard practice, films selected by each individual country’s Academy selection committee are submitted to the Academy for screening, shortlisting and voting with official Oscar nominees announced at a later date.

Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy Invited to Join Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences

Sharmeen Obaid ChinoySharmeen Obaid Chinoy, the Oscar winning Pakistani director is all set to make history once again when she will join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences U.S.A as a participating member. This makes Sharmeen the first person from her homeland to participate in such a giant platform.

The celebrated filmmaker, Sharmeen became a household name when she won the Oscar award for her critically acclaimed ‘Saving Face‘ in 2012. Till now she has an Emmy award, an Academy Awards, and a Lux Style Award for life time achievement, under her belt. Government of Pakistan has also conferred Tamgha-e-Imtiaz on her.

With so many prestigious awards, this invitation comes as no surprise for the smart lady. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invited almost 276 artists from around the globe belonging to the field of theatrical pictures.

Pakistani Filmmaker, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy, Brings Home the First Oscar!

Acclaimed Pakistani filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and her film “Saving Face” has won the Oscar for Best Documentary, Short Subject for the prestigious Academy Award.

The documentary which will soon be aired on HBO in March 2012 is a chronicle of a British Pakistani plastic surgeon, aiding victims of acid attacks in Pakistan. Directed by Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy and Daniel Junge, Saving Face has been shot entirely in Pakistan.

While Daniel Junge was previously nominated for another one of his documentaries, The Last Campaign Of Governor Booth Gardner (2009), this was Chinoy’s first Oscar nomination.
