Azal – Saari Duniya Hill Jayegi (Single Review)

by Hasan Faridi

It’s not anything new when a band comes out in favour for Pakistani cricket. It’s all been done before by the likes of sensations CALL and Strings. But now rockers named Azal have hit the Stadium to show what its all about.

Signed by Times Music of India, Fire Records of Pakistan and Sangeet Records of USA, Azal compromise of 4 talented and passionate musicians: Rajab Ali Khan and Ehtesham Hameed Khan on vocals, Shahbaz Ali Khan on keyboards and Sameer Ahmed on bass.

With the T20 World Cup over the horizon, and all hopes high for the success of Pakistan’s cricket team, “Saari Duniya Hill Jayegi” was made. The song isn’t as mellow as CALL’sBadal Do Zamana” and Strings “Hai Koye Hum Jaisa”, but that’s a good thing. This song is fuelled rock, with distorted guitar riffs, heavy drumming and a hard attitude. Perfect for representing passion and enthusiasm to succeed. Even though the music may sound Western, the vocals still capture the essence of Pakistan. Pakistan has a strong foot in the ground with this number, now cricketers England and Australia have to keep up.

Shehzad Roy and Najam Shiraz win at the Lux Style Awards ’09 leaving veterans Ali Azmat, Strings, Shafqat Amanat Ali and newbies Zeb and Haniya high and dry

Rock ’em shock ’em:

Deciphering the numbers

The music winners at Lux Style Awards ’09 indeed came as a surprise. Who would’ve thought that Najam Shiraz would walk away with Song of the Year over Ali Azmat, Shehzad Roy, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan and Zeb and Haniya? But he did.

In reality, the toughest competition for Najam‘s ‘Khwabon Key Rishtey’ was neither Ali Azmat nor Strings. As it turns out, it was Shehzad Roy’s ‘Laga Reh’. The reason one can state this as fact, more than just an observation is because of the numbers that each category generated. In other words, thefinal result list (by the Lux Style Awards) given to the press validates these claims. Instep Today takes a closer look at the votes…

As far as music awards go, this is the most prestigious and coveted trophy. And last year saw some incredibly tough albums go up against each other. Ali Azmat returned with Klashinfolk. Leaving behind the sonic effects that were the driving force behind his solo debut record Social Circus, Ali opted for a raw, fierce rock sound that was neither redundant nor monotonous. Klashinfolk really was the second coming of Ali Azmat.

Azal in studio recording second album

azalThe band that took the world of pop not by storm but by hurricane with their single Dunia Ki Aisi Taisi, are working on their second album. Azal have been in the studio for quite some time now and this time round intend to churn out an album rockier than their first offering.

Those who’re privy to their musings say that there’s a song on Azal’s second album that will do what Aisi Taisi did for them earlier. It’s called Patli Gali and has the quintessential street smart feel to it.

Well, can’t wait to lend my ears to it. However, if the number doesn’t live up to its reputation Azal might have to look for a patli gali.
