Azal – Saari Duniya Hill Jayegi (Single Review)

by Hasan Faridi

It’s not anything new when a band comes out in favour for Pakistani cricket. It’s all been done before by the likes of sensations CALL and Strings. But now rockers named Azal have hit the Stadium to show what its all about.

Signed by Times Music of India, Fire Records of Pakistan and Sangeet Records of USA, Azal compromise of 4 talented and passionate musicians: Rajab Ali Khan and Ehtesham Hameed Khan on vocals, Shahbaz Ali Khan on keyboards and Sameer Ahmed on bass.

With the T20 World Cup over the horizon, and all hopes high for the success of Pakistan’s cricket team, “Saari Duniya Hill Jayegi” was made. The song isn’t as mellow as CALL’sBadal Do Zamana” and Strings “Hai Koye Hum Jaisa”, but that’s a good thing. This song is fuelled rock, with distorted guitar riffs, heavy drumming and a hard attitude. Perfect for representing passion and enthusiasm to succeed. Even though the music may sound Western, the vocals still capture the essence of Pakistan. Pakistan has a strong foot in the ground with this number, now cricketers England and Australia have to keep up.

Cricket_articleIt’s safe to turn on the telly again: there’s some good news at last. Heart-wrenching images of suicide bombings, IDP camps and protests against electricity black-outs have dominated television screens for so long that we had almost forgotten that it could provide good, solid and healthy entertainment as well.

It all came flooding back though on the night of June 20, 2009, as Pakistan played Sri Lanka in the final match of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup. Many people stayed home, glued to their TV sets. Others invited friends and family to watch the game together. And at a time when gathering at public places is considered risky, large screen TVs were put up in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. Men, women and children thronged the roads in the summer heat: counting each run, watching each ball, and praying desperately that their side would win.

Ali Zafar Blogs about the Terror Attacks “And there goes cricket too”

“Why does it take so long for something right to happen in this country. And why does it take no time for something like this to happen. Where’s the accountability?
People have been on the streets commenting, screaming , protesting, debating to see the promises made to them fulfilled. Why are they not ?!
It’s sad to witness the formulation of our destiny by a few!
I keep saying unless the youth won’t rise to it, there can be no saving or survival. This is not something new that i say. Jinnah said the same thing. So did Iqbal. The old system and the corrupt thought process needs an exchange with a more enlightened, selfless, educated, groomed and passionate doctrine formulated by the new breed of brains. You need technicians to run a country more than politicians.
Deepest regards and condolences to the Sri Lankan team who was courageous enough to come and play. Sorry guys ! And also to those police officers who lay their lives down.
I’m off.”
