Quality is once again expected to make a comeback to the Pakistani cinemas as there are numerous commercial and feature films lined up for release in the near future that are certainly expected to create ripples in almost dead waters of the Pakistani film industry.
Earlier this year, we saw the release of two films that attracted quite a lot of audience despite their low budget and unknown faces.
An evening of classical music featuring students of the Classical Music Heritage Trust (CMHT) was held at the PNCA Tuesday evening and was attended by a select audience of music aficionados including parents and siblings of the young artistes.
Their guru and teacher, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan was also in the audience as were some of the founders of the CMHT as well as former boss of the World Bank in Pakistan, John Wall, who has been a great supporter of the CMHT and is visiting Pakistan these days.
So, the coke studio season 2 finally comes to an end. We all are going to miss the studio where the fusion happened and will desperately wait for the the third season to come (May Allah give long life to Rohail Hyatt). During the airing of the second season, we actively collected statistics and ran voting polls (10 days per poll) for each episode, so, we may figure out and also share with you the likenesses and dis likeness of the crowd about the the season.

To the world at large, Coke Studio is the magnum opus genius of Rohail Hyatt. Featuring Pakistan’s biggest names in music, both from the Eastern classical/folk front and modern day pop giants while introducing new musicians into the mix who have hitherto remained unknown backing musicians at various concerts, the second season of Coke Studio is looking spectacular.

I drive several miles out of the main centre of the city, cross a bridge into an area dominated by warehouses and industrial mills and arrive at a venue marked only by a tiny sign. The only thing that gives the location away are the number of cars parked in front and the comings and goings of personnel with identity tags around their necks.
Despite all of the sociopolitical and economic odds it faces, art serves not only as a breath of fresh air but also motivates those exposed to it. Recently, episode one of the second season of Coke Studio titled Individuality was aired on private networks across Pakistan, giving audiences a flavour of the music coming out of Pakistan’s biggest music collaborative venture.

The Coke Studio sessions have begun and the impact of Season Two is more far reaching than Season One. After the sessions went on air, the tremors were felt far and wide on the Worldwide Web. The Coke Studio website had to close down for some time the day after the show because of heavy traffic with people trying to view and download songs, wallpapers and other stuff it provides.

Coke Studio returns to our screens again with its second season tonight. The playing bill for the first episode is explosive. With performances from Saieen Zahoor, Atif Aslam, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Javed Bashir, Noori, Zeb and Haniya, it is a celebration of Pakistani music, an exploration of the sound of the soil and true fusion to remember for years to come.
