This year’s Lux Style Awards were held last night at the Expo Center in Karachi. Besides television and fashion, there were some music categories too. This year some musicians even ventured into acting like Fawad Afzal Khan of EP who was nominated for the drama serial Dastaan, in which he played the character of Hassan, but did not win.

Guitarist, composer and music producer Shallum Xavier and singer Zara Madani won the Singer of the Year award for their song ‘Payam‘. Director Bilal Lashari won the Best Music Video Director award for EP’s music video Shor Macha.

Other music categories included the award for the Best Artist that went to pop/rock band Mauj

Today, I read some wise words on Facebook fan page of KoolMuzone by one of the members, Sara Khalid. Aag Alive should be one of the biggest concerts ever happened in the history of Pakistan. The concert is featuring 22 artists who will play for 12 hours on 25th of October. The concert will be featuring Strings, Atif Aslam, Ali Azmat, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Annie, Fuzon, Amanat Ali, Rahim Shah, Mauj, Roxen, Karavan, Aaroh, Adeel Chaudhry, Laal, Reith, Nida Arab, Circle of Trust, Seige, Hadiqa Kiani, Shiraz Uppal, Call & Noori.

In the previous four days, we have witnessed four attacks, one of them being on the GHQ. GHQ is supposed to be one of the most secured places of Pakistan. Even though the attack was somewhat a fail still it resulted in the loss of precious lives. Because of these incidents we simply can’t stop living our lives and things have to go on like they do but “Aag Alive” features 22 mainstream musicians of Pakistan and I believe that makes 90 % of our mainstream industry.

The MTV Brrr Music Awards held recently in Karachi amused, shocked and at times even horrified the audience. Although the blunders that happened were too many to list, we’ve shortlisted a few that stood out.

When getting music acts to perform ‘live’ (which in the case of the MTV Music Awards meant a mixture of performing on DAT and, along with the vocals, and very few instruments plugged in to perform), make sure that the microphones are both switched on and operating — and not after the acts have gone on stage.
