By Hasan Faridi

Renowned guitarist Asad Ahmed, has been in the music industry for ages. It’s just that most of the time, he hasn’t had a chance to showcase himself as a sole artist. With an upcoming album over the horizon, Ahmed wants to show what he can bring to the table.

In a defiant stand, Ahmed recently made a clear statement, stating, “I don’t want to do the whole guitar hero thing again. I think, for me, it has always been more about the songs than guitar solos.”

And likewise, Ahmed may have just already proved he can create instrumental ‘songs’ in his new release named “Will You”. It’s given to us hungry rockers like a starter prior to the main course.

Upon listening to the track, I was immediately hooked in. Starting off with bunch of heavy riffing and power slides by the man himself, Asad gives us a good dose of his own solo composition. The bass at the bridge drops the adrenaline, but then Ahmed flies in with a fast solo backed up later with the waa-waa pedals.

After repeating the same song many times, I found myself hearing not just music, but the weeping electric guitar. The composition became a song. The guitar was actually singing. The voice was recognizable even more at the end, with the guitar seeming to weep “Will You” as the track came to a finish.

The track is as slick as Ahmed’s long hair.

Without a doubt, Ahmed is one of Pakistan’s finest guitarists. Along with many other achievements, Ahmed was the founder of the influential Pakistani band Karavan, and has collaborated with Vital Signs and the so-called “U2 of Pakistan”, Junoon. His guitar skills have benefited many, including Najam Sheraz, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, and recently in Ali Zafar’s upcoming film, London Paris New York.

Ahmed’s experience in the music industry is of such value that his achievements are somewhat rather unbelievable. You can even find him in various Youtube videos in which he performs live without busting a sweat or making a mistake. And likewise, we will see Ahmed’s talent shine in the upcoming album.

Featuring English songs, surprise guest vocalists, and a whole array of instruments to add to the arsenal, the upcoming album will definitely be worth the wait.
