Hadiqa Kiani & Aisam ul Haq announced as Goodwill Ambassadors for Early Recovery

Pakistan female Pop sensation, Hadiqa Kiani who has constantly been working to help the flood victims has been appointed by the United Nations as a Goodwill Ambassador, she is the first woman from Pakistan to be a UN Goodwill Ambassador, she has been appointed by their United Nations Development Program along with Tennis Star and Youth Icon Aisam-ul-Haq for Early Recovery.

On the occasion of her appointment, she said:

“UNDP is helping communities affected by the floods rebuild their life and I am proud to add my personal commitment to these efforts.”

Hadiqa has been working as an Advocate for Environment for UNDP Pakistan and sang UNDP Pakistan’s public service song which was very well received by public.

Hadiqa is very keen on working for the well-being of communities and poor of Pakistan. During 2005 earthquake, Hadiqa travelled to various affected areas and relief camps to provide essential relief items to the victims. In 2010, she travelled to flood-affected areas in different provinces of Pakistan to provide essential relief items to the affectees and mobilized resources through her public appearances, and appeals for donations in schools, colleges and universities and telethon appearances.

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi is Pakistan’s top tennis player, who has won most Davis Cup matches for his country. He has been praised for promoting harmony between Pakistan and India when he teamed up with the Indian tennis player Rohan Bopanna, with whom he reached the 2010 US Open Grand Slam Tennis finals in men’s doubles. Aisam is a recipient of the President’s Award for Pride of Performance, and will receive the Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the Government of Pakistan in March 2011.

On November 8, 2010, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi was officially appointed as UNDP National Goodwill Ambassador for Early Recovery. On the occasion of his appointment, he said:

“I am honored to become a Goodwill Ambassador for UNDP in Pakistan. I have been lucky in life to pursue my passion for tennis. It is important for me to help people who lost everything because of the floods to get back on their feet.”

“I am committed to work with UNDP to help people rebuild their lives, restore their livelihoods and altogether get back to a normal life as they return home.”

Aisam-ul-Haq is also a member of the “Champions for Peace” club, a group of 40 athletes committed to serving peace in the world through sport, created by a Monaco-based Peace and Sport organization. Together with this Organization, Aisam and Bopanna are currently working closely with their respective state governments to organize a tennis match at the Wagah Border to further promote peace between the two countries.

Aisam-ul-Haq, born March 17, 1980 in Lahore, Pakistan, has benefited from his parents’ devotion to his career. His father, Ihtsham-ul-Haq Qureshi, was awarded the Prince Henrik Medal of Honour by the Royal Kingdom of Denmark. His mother, Nosheen Ihtsham, is a former Pakistan No. 1 tennis player.

Aisam-ul-Haq raises funds for flood-affected people through his family’s Haq Foundation.

The Government of Pakistan and the United Nations shall jointly present Pakistan’s Floods Relief and Early Recovery Response Plan-2010 to the international fraternity and donor community for their continued support.

The induction ceremony will be held later on today at the Auditorium, at zero level, at the Prime Minister Secretariat. But this is one official poster from the UN regarding the event.
