Quality is once again expected to make a comeback to the Pakistani cinemas as there are numerous commercial and feature films lined up for release in the near future that are certainly expected to create ripples in almost dead waters of the Pakistani film industry.
Earlier this year, we saw the release of two films that attracted quite a lot of audience despite their low budget and unknown faces.
Karachi, April 18, 2013: Lux Style Award’s winner in the category of best music video director, Adnan Malik teamed up with the best emerging talent in the music category, Bumbu Sauce to produce the cracking adrenaline–pumped music video “My Punjabi Love for you”. The video premier attended by energetic crowd also marked the launch of AMP, A Boutique Media Production House”.
‘My Punjabi Love for you’ is an evocative and propulsive experimental music video/experimental film hybrid, which tells a story of a young rural wife who attempts to overcome the challenges faced by independent women in a male dominated society.
Inspired by the raw and grungy sound of the track, “My Punjabi Love For You” by Bumbu Sauce, the winners of Lux Style Award’s Best Emerging Artist 2012, the video propels you into the world of its female protagonist and her troubled relationship with men and society.
On Tuesday the 28th of February 2012, Levi’s® officially launched its new Global store at Dolman City Mall, Karachi. The inauguration was organized by Adnan Malik Productions (AMP) and CityFM89.
The store opening started off with much fanfare and excitement, brand ambassadors, Strings and Zoe Viccaji were present at the outlet for a public shirt signing between 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm. This was attended by the general public and there was a deluge of fans as they crowded into the store to take pictures and get autographs from their favorite stars.
The launch continued with an exclusive invite only performance by Zoe Viccaji and Strings. Celebrities and members of Karachi society were out in full force on the red carpet. Attendees included Rohail Hyatt, Saqib Malik, Q from the band JoSH, Anoushey Ashraf, Ainy Jaffri, Saima Mohsin, Shehroz Sabzwari, Alishba Yousuf and Hira Tareen.
This year’s Lux Style Awards were held last night at the Expo Center in Karachi. Besides television and fashion, there were some music categories too. This year some musicians even ventured into acting like Fawad Afzal Khan of EP who was nominated for the drama serial Dastaan, in which he played the character of Hassan, but did not win.
Guitarist, composer and music producer Shallum Xavier and singer Zara Madani won the Singer of the Year award for their song ‘Payam‘. Director Bilal Lashari won the Best Music Video Director award for EP’s music video Shor Macha.
Other music categories included the award for the Best Artist that went to pop/rock band Mauj

Deciphering the numbers
The music winners at Lux Style Awards ’09 indeed came as a surprise. Who would’ve thought that Najam Shiraz would walk away with Song of the Year over Ali Azmat, Shehzad Roy, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan and Zeb and Haniya? But he did.
In reality, the toughest competition for Najam‘s ‘Khwabon Key Rishtey’ was neither Ali Azmat nor Strings. As it turns out, it was Shehzad Roy’s ‘Laga Reh’. The reason one can state this as fact, more than just an observation is because of the numbers that each category generated. In other words, thefinal result list (by the Lux Style Awards) given to the press validates these claims. Instep Today takes a closer look at the votes…
Best Music Album
As far as music awards go, this is the most prestigious and coveted trophy. And last year saw some incredibly tough albums go up against each other. Ali Azmat returned with Klashinfolk. Leaving behind the sonic effects that were the driving force behind his solo debut record Social Circus, Ali opted for a raw, fierce rock sound that was neither redundant nor monotonous. Klashinfolk really was the second coming of Ali Azmat.
Earlier in march, we reported about Zeb and Haniya doing music for lollywood. Recently, in an interview with Instep Magazine, Shaan talked about his upcoming project in which we will see him as a producer, directer, actor and writer. Shaan says
I’ve a vision for our film industry, which is that it should break free of its shackles. My films will be an hour-and-half long which has never been tried in Pakistan. I believe three hours is a limitation we’ve unnecessarily imposed on our cinema. We don’t have the finances to do justice to 10 minutes of film footage, let alone three hours.
Shaan has a vision to bring revolution in the film industry. He will be casting Pakistani mainstream models like Juggun Kazim, Natasha, vinnie and the music will be done by the mainstream musicians like Zeb and Haniya, Omran Shafique of Mauj & Gumby & Mekaal Hasan
