A More Dimensional Intimacy with “Bibi Sanam Janem”

By

Sadaf Fayyaz

Zeb and HaniyaAfter “Paimona”, Zeb & Haniya steal the show with their highly applaudable “Bibi Sanam”, with Dari derivation and saccharine Dari accent. The Coke Studio sessions are really worth appraising and hold a touch of classy knack to them. The original song, sung by Wahid Qasemi (Vaheed Kaacemy; Persian) sounds with a different set of tune and harmony.

Coke Studio S03E01 – Reason (Episode Review)

By Atif Azhar Meer

Coke Studio Season 3 Episode 1 Reason

In the summer of 08 , we got one of the most finest TV productions from COKE. The first season of Coke Studio was a great success both among the masses and the critics. It was a great production, very esthetically designed artwork : the set and the lights, a great house band featuring very fine musicians and above all, a great producer, Mr. Rohail Hyatt at his best. Since then, Coke studio has come a long way. In summer 09, the second season of Coke Studio was launched. It was even better in almost all aspects. One thing I will like to mention here, that we should all feel very proud of the fact that we have achieved something very big in the form of Coke Studio. Recording Live music is not an easy task. It’s a lot of hard work.

Today, on the 6th of June, 2010, the first episode of Coke Studio’s yet another glorious return was aired on TV.  Yes, welcome to Coke Studio – Season III.

Catch all hot stuff of Coke Studio Season 3

(Pakistan, 31 May 2010) With the third season of the Coke Studio journey formally announced on 14 May at a press conference, the much-awaited first episode ‘Reason’ will now be airing on 06 June. The brand new season once again takes the audience to the heart of the live recording studio to witness unique performances — each attempting to reflect the rich musical heritage of Pakistan. The central theme this year is the process of creation and hence the first episode revolves around the rationale for creation. That the reason (or the driving force) has range, is taken into account as well: it can be ambition, an unrequited desire, devotion to a higher form and can be subliminal or overt.

A rich fusion of culture, tradition and history, Pakistani music is derived from diverse elements and various musical influences. Within this dynamic musical environment, Coke Studio has emerged as a musical fusion platform of exciting elements and influences, ranging from traditional eastern, modern western and regionally inspired music coming together to form a distinctive Pakistani sound. Bringing alive the magic of live recordings and performances, Coke Studio prides itself on providing a musical platform which seeks to bridge barriers, celebrate diversity, encourage unity and instil a sense of Pakistani pride. Coke Studio is indeed an inspired step by Coca-Cola for having created a platform where renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream musicians from various genres can collaborate musically.

Join the Coke Studio journey, as we broaden our horizons to encompass a wider circle — an expanding sphere of diversity, culture and tradition. Central to our third edition is the need to explore the intricacies of inspiration, creation and evolution, and to discover how the elements of reason, will, resolve and form come together and culminate in the realization of dreams and goals. True to the desire to retain and revere individuality, Coke Studio’s wings span the entire breadth and length of our soil: from the rugged custodians of the Sufic tradition to suave urbane men and women, from indigenous ballads to universal kalams. This season as the wheel rotates, a growing palette of unique colors, flavors and sounds come together and contribute to enrich the Coke Studio circle. Come and be a part of the sea change as once again we connect distinct and varied styles, ethnicities and identities and link them with that one common denominator — Music.

Warid Glow Executes Massive Ad Campaign Featuring 10+1 Musicians [Updated]

10 Musicians Signed by Warid Glow
From L to R: Ahsan Papu, Farhad, Jaffer, Saba, Aamir, Khalid, Faisal Baig, Sikandar, Zoe & Asad.

Since recently, there has been a new boom in advertisement industry of Pakistan to include musicians in the TVCs to target youth. This step specially by the telecom industry hasn’t only exponentially grabbed youth but has also paid off the hard-work of these Pakistani rock icons in the times where the album sales have declined massively .

After recent inclusion of Farhad Humayun, Noori, Call and Ali Azmat in PTCL EVO, Walls, McDonald’s and Ufone’s ad campaigns respectively, Warid glow has taken a step ahead to execute a massive ten-day ad campaign, that isn’t only one of it’s kind but also one of the best executed ad campaigns of Pakistan.

To me everything about this campaign has felt just perfect. By featuring these music maestros playing best of their solos along with state-of-the-art video direction by Soheb Akhtar of Ambiance films and high budgets, Warid has actually stolen hearts of music enthusiasts from around the country. There is something for everyone of us out there from Aamir Zaki’s blues to Farhad Drums.
